ABOUT US

SPURS Night has been steadily becoming one of Toronto’s most beloved dance events over its first two years of throwing line dancing nights for queer people and their friends.

After learning about the LGBTQ+ history of country and western dancing in LA and picking up steps from country bars across the States, Kathleen Munroe started SPURS Night to bring the spirit of queer cowboy culture home to Toronto. The event began at the queer sports bar Champs in Montréal, and found its Toronto home at Owls Club, a legion hall where folks come by every Sunday to learn some new steps through weekly lessons, dance some classic country line dances to their favorite pop songs, or to mingle with a friendly pocket of the queer community.

Kathleen has since been joined by Nessie Nankivell, Meredith Shedden, and Veronique Beaudet, while Noël Vézina has taken over running the night in Montréal. SPURS has travelled from The Hayloft in Prince Edward County to Ottawa Pride, and loves to bring the euphoria of queer line dancing to communities all over Canada, while keeping it alive and well in its own cities.
